Product Description

NutraVital® Biotic: your probiotic for horses

NutraVital® Biotic for horses is a pre- and probiotic complementary feed to support gut microbiota in horses. It combines live yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae with the prebiotic fibre inulin: active cultures and nutrition for beneficial gut bacteria in one product. As a complementary feed for the horse's gastrointestinal tract, it supports digestion, stabilisation of the gut microbiota and regulation of the gut environment.

  • Deliberately lean composition: Dextrose, inulin, maize starch plus live yeast. No herbal mixtures, no hidden additives. You know exactly what's in the feed.

  • Not relevant to doping lists: No herbal content over 3%, no L-tryptophan. No withdrawal period before competitions.

  • Water-soluble and palatable: Add to feed or dissolve in water. Well accepted by horses.

  • 750 g monthly supply: Sufficient for approximately 40 days for a 600 kg horse. Measuring spoon included.

  • Long-term use: Designed for regular, continuous feeding. Not just as a one-off gut recovery measure but as a permanent supplement.

How the probiotic works in horses

The live yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae (CBS 493.94/4a1704, 7.5×10¹¹ CFU/kg) is a feed digestibility enhancer. Unlike inactive brewer's yeast, live yeast works actively in the horse's digestive tract. In the equine gut, it can help improve crude fibre digestibility, promote the growth of healthy gut bacteria and support gut microbiota balance.

Inulin serves as a prebiotic fibre ... essentially food for the beneficial microorganisms in the gut. The live yeast actively supports the gut microbiota as a probiotic, while the inulin nourishes the good bacteria as a prebiotic. Together, they create a dual mechanism of action. This is how probiotics for horses achieve their full effect on the microbiome and digestive function.

A healthy gut environment with a stable pH has direct consequences for the entire gastrointestinal tract: digestion can stabilise, nutrient absorption can improve and immune defence can be supported. Probiotics can also help strengthen the natural intestinal barrier.

Furthermore, gut bacteria are involved in the synthesis of various nutrients. Probiotics should be given regularly and continuously. Optimal results are achieved with permanent use, not as a one-off course.

When to use NutraVital® Biotic for horses

Good to Know

Gut microbiota in horses: why the gastrointestinal tract is so important

Approximately 80% of the immune system resides in the gut. Your horse's gut microbiota can make a decisive contribution to health, performance and wellbeing. Billions of microorganisms work in the equine gut: bacteria such as lactobacilli, yeasts, fungi and protozoa together form the microbiome that breaks down crude fibre and makes it available to the horse as an energy source. An intact intestinal barrier and a stable gut environment are essential for digestive function and a healthy microbiome.

This delicate balance can quickly be disrupted by stress, feed changes, spring grazing, transport, illness or medication. The quality of forage also plays a role: poor-quality or badly stored hay can put additional strain on the gut microbiota. The consequences: soft stools, faecal water, bloating, stomach and digestive problems. The immune system can also be affected, because immune defence is closely linked to the health of the gastrointestinal tract.

Targeted gut recovery in horses works precisely at this point. As a horse owner, you can actively support the gut microbiota with probiotics. Prebiotics supply the nutrition that beneficial gut bacteria need to grow. Gut recovery is not a one-off measure but works best with regular, consistent use.

Pre- and probiotics for horses: what's the difference?

Probiotics are live microorganisms that actively support gut microbiota. They can contain bacterial strains, yeast cultures or both. NutraVital® Biotic uses live yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, which, unlike inactive brewer's yeast, works actively in the horse's digestive system and can contribute to stabilising the microbiome.

Prebiotics are indigestible fibres that serve as food for beneficial bacteria in the gut. The inulin in NutraVital® Biotic specifically promotes the growth of "good" microorganisms. If you're looking for gut probiotics for your horse, it's worth choosing a product that combines pre- and probiotic substances.

The combination of prebiotics and probiotics can be more effective than either component alone. The probiotic stabilises the gut microbiota, the prebiotic nourishes the healthy bacteria. A dual approach to maintaining your horse's gut health.

Gut recovery in horses: after antibiotics, with soft stools and faecal water

After antibiotic treatment or worming, the horse's gut microbiota is often decimated. Antibiotics do not distinguish between harmful and beneficial bacteria. Targeted gut recovery with a probiotic can support the rebuilding of gut microbiota and contribute to stabilising the microbiome.

Soft stools and faecal water are among the most common digestive problems in horses, with the cause often lying in the large intestine. Even during a feed change, such as the transition from hay to grass in spring, the composition of the gut microbiota shifts. Stressful situations such as transport, stable changes or competitions can put further strain on the delicate balance.

NutraVital® Biotic is designed for permanent use. Not as a one-off treatment, but as continuous support for regulating and stabilising digestive function. So your horse is prepared for whatever comes.

FAQ

Horse and probiotics: frequently asked questions

The key questions about NutraVital® Biotic for horses. Still have questions? Feel free to send us a message via our contact form.

Probiotics are live microorganisms that actively support your horse's gut microbiota. The live yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae in NutraVital® Biotic works directly in the gastrointestinal tract: it can improve crude fibre digestibility, promote the growth of healthy gut bacteria and contribute to gut stabilisation. This can lead to improved digestion and a stable microbiome.
Yes. The gut microbiota is often out of balance after antibiotic treatment, because antibiotics do not distinguish between beneficial and harmful bacteria. Targeted support with probiotics can help stabilise the gut environment. We recommend starting after the course of antibiotics ends, or, in consultation with your vet, feeding it alongside the treatment.
Yes. NutraVital® Biotic is not relevant to doping lists. Unlike products with herbal content over 3% or tryptophan, no withdrawal period is required before competitions. You can feed the product continuously, even directly before and during competitions.
We recommend continuous, regular use. Unlike many comparable products designed as 3 to 4 week courses, NutraVital® Biotic achieves the best results with continuous feeding. This keeps your horse's gut microbiota permanently stable.
Give 1 measuring spoon (9 g) per 300 kg body weight, added to feed. For a 600 kg horse, that's 2 measuring spoons daily. If needed, you can increase the dosage by a maximum of 1 measuring spoon. The powder is water-soluble and can also be dissolved in water.
Yes. Feed changes and spring grazing are typical situations where shifts in nutrition put strain on the gut microbiota. NutraVital® Biotic can stabilise the gut microbiota during this transition phase and contribute to balanced digestion.
The powder contains dextrose, inulin and maize starch as a base, plus live yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae (CBS 493.94/4a1704, 7.5×10¹¹ CFU/kg) as a digestibility-enhancing additive. No herbal mixtures, no artificial flavours, no hidden additives.
No. NutraVital® Biotic contains neither herbal content over 3% nor tryptophan and is therefore not relevant to doping lists. No withdrawal period is required. You can feed the product without interruption.
